Redstar Gold Corp. (the "Company") has commenced a diamond drill program on its Newman Todd property in the Red Lake region of northern Ontario. The Newman Todd property represents a high priority exploration target that has not been drilled since the mid 1980's.
Previous work on the property outlined three styles of gold mineralization: gold associated with quartz veins in a large breccia zone, gold associated with iron formations and gold associated with a felsic-mafic contact. Drilling within these zones returned results up to 19.5 g/t gold over 2.9 metres and 27.18 g/t gold over 1.4 metres. A new structural interpretation of the area indicates a very similar geological setting at the Newman Todd property to that at the main mines in the Red Lake camp.
AngloGold Ashanti completed work programs on the Newman Todd and adjacent properties in 2003 and 2004. Geophysical surveys, drilling and trenching outlined an extensive gold bearing alteration system, which underlies part of the Newman Todd property. In particular, this alteration system sits adjacent to the three known zones of gold mineralization mentioned above.
Redstar is planning a small drill program to validate the new structural interpretation and follow-up on the high-grade results obtained from the previous drilling. A total of four or five holes are planned with results expected in late September or early October. Redstar is earning a 100% interest in the Newman Todd property from AngloGold Ashanti.
Scott Weekes, president of Redstar Gold states: "Redstar is very excited about the potential of the Newman Todd property. Our technical team believes the Newman Todd property may host a near surface high grade vein system in a similar geological environment to the Campbell and Red Lake mines. Our new structural interpretation indicates the high-grade values intersected in earlier drilling have not been followed-up."
