Vancouver, B.C., September 13, 2007: Redstar Gold Corp (TSX-V:RGC) is pleased to announce that the first exploration drilling program on the company's Painted Hills project is now underway. No previous drilling has been conducted on the project. The Painted Hills project is located in northwestern Nevada and is a joint venture with International Tower Hill Mines Ltd. (ITH) (TSX-V:ITH & AMEX: THM) in which ITH can earn up to a 70% interest in the project under terms announced in March, 2007.
Two drill holes have been completed of a planned three-hole 1,000 metre Phase One diamond drill program. The first two holes intersected wide zones of alteration, silicification and sulphide mineralization. As a result of these intercepts an additional 196 claims have been staked to cover the potential extent of the mineralized system.
Scott Weekes, President of Redstar states: "We are pleased to be part of the first ever drill program at Painted Hills and are eagerly awaiting assay results from the previously untested low sulphidation, epithermal system. The project is located in northwestern Nevada where a number of large scale, high grade, low sulphidation epithermal systems are located. As a result of the alteration and mineralization encountered in the first two drill holes, Redstar and ITH have added 196 claims to the Painted Hills project. "
The target at Painted Hills is a high grade epithermal vein system similar to the mineralization at the Sleeper (approx. 2.5 Moz) and Midas (Ken Snyder mine; approx. 3Moz @ 1.1 ounces per ton Au) deposits. Observations from the current drilling along with surface exposures and geophysics have indicated that Painted Hills contains an extensive epithermal system at least 1.5 kilometres long. Further, the exposed and near-surface alteration and mineralization appear to represent the shallow parts of a potentially productive, high-grade vein system.
Initial results from seven samples taken within the extensive areas of silicification and sulphide mineralization in the first two holes have returned anomalous gold values with high trace element indicator minerals. The initial results also indicate that gold grades are increasing with depth. The remaining samples from the first hole have now been submitted to the lab and results will be released when received.
Dr. Jacob Margolis, Exploration Manager for Redstar states: "We are extremely encouraged by the initial indicators from this phase one program. The first three holes indicate that we are delineating a new, robust epithermal system with multiple zones of silicification and sulphide mineralization. Vein textures, alteration types, and the initial assay results are consistent with our exploration model that we can expect deeper high-grade mineralization. These are only the first holes drilled into a system that is over 1.5 kilometres long, and we have other exploration targets on the project that have yet to be drill tested. The significant expansion of our claim block is a reflection of our level of excitement."
Dr. Jacob Margolis, a qualified person as defined by National Instrument 43-101, has reviewed this news release and acted for Redstar in the design and implementation of the work program at Painted Hills. Dr. Margolis is the Exploration Manager for Redstar Gold Corp. On-site personnel at the project photograph all sample shipments which are then sealed and shipped to ALS Chemex for assay. ALS Chemex's quality control system complies with the requirements for the International Standards ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 17025:1999. Analytical accuracy and precision are monitored by the analysis of reagent blanks, reference material and replicate samples. Quality control is further assured by the use of international and in-house standards. Finally, representative blind duplicate samples are forwarded to ALS Chemex and an ISO compliant third party laboratory for additional quality control.
