"Root Spring" Geology Similar to Nearby Rochester Silver Mine
Vancouver, B.C., July 10, 2007: Redstar Gold Corp. (TSX.V:RGC) is pleased to announce the acquisition of a new exploration project in Nevada. The 100% Redstar-owned project, Root Spring, consists of a block of 62 unpatented claims covering a mineralized quartz-vein system that can be traced for at least 1300 metres. Surface rock-chip values reach 8.49 g/t gold (0.248 ounces per ton, opt) accompanied by high silver values reaching 854 g/t (24.9 opt). The project lies about 50 miles south of the city of Winnemucca and 16 miles east of the world-class open-pit Rochester silver mine operated by Coeur d'Alene Mines Corporation.
Jake Margolis, Redstar's U.S. exploration manager notes: "Root Spring is clearly an under explored silver-gold system with strong first-pass sample results and a geologic setting that appears to be similar to the nearby Rochester Ag-Au mine. In addition to mineralization within the larger veins, the presence of mineralization in the surrounding silicified and quartz-veined host rock package indicates that the system has bulk-tonnage (open-pit) potential. Further, the significant amount of post-mineralization cover offers an opportunity to test for concealed mineralization."
Mineralization at Root Spring consists of northwest-trending low-angle quartz veins and quartz-vein stockworks hosted within a poorly-exposed section of volcanic rocks which may be equivalent to the host volcanic section at the Rochester mine. The gently west-dipping veins and host volcanics are adjacent to a Triassic granitic pluton and within a northwest-trending alluvial-filled valley corridor along a range front which may mark a major structural zone. The vein system is partly concealed by alluvium and is likely to extend significantly along strike beyond the limited vein exposures. Individual veins are up to 5 metres thick, with two parallel veins exposed, separated by about 90 metres. Larger veins are surrounded by poorly-exposed silicified rocks containing quartz-vein stockworks. The highest gold/silver grades occur within thick veins, but poorly-exposed wallrocks also carry mineralization. Given the limited exposures, it is possible that additional massive veins exist in the system.
Previous exploration is limited to a 1987 program of seven shallow drill holes totalling 404 metres; the deepest hole is 91 metres. Only potions of the holes were assayed but did return mineralized intervals, including 35.5 g/t Ag (1.04 opt) over 9.1 metres with 0.333 g/t Au average and 40.2 g/t Ag (1.17 opt) over 4.6 metres with a five-foot interval of 1.10 g/t Au (zone incompletely assayed). A composite sample collected by Redstar from the quartz-vein cuttings of one of the holes returned 3.4 g/t Au with 191 g/t Ag (5.6 opt). Other historic work on the project includes a small pit which reportedly yielded a shipment of 40 tons grading 14 opt Ag. Samples from the pit reach 3.64 g/t Au (0.106 opt) and 854 g/t Ag (25 opt).
Scott Weekes, president of Redstar states: "Redstar is extremely pleased to be able to add a silver, gold project to our growing portfolio of Nevada properties. Consistent with our strategy of acquiring high-potential projects in Nevada, Root Springs is an under explored vein system that can be traced for at least 1300 metres and our sampling has returned high grade silver values with significant gold values. Root Springs is only 16 miles from the Rochester silver mine and appears to have a similar geologic setting, which makes the project a high priority acquisition for us as we continue to evaluate other targets to add to our Nevada portfolio.
We now have acquired through staking, seven projects that were selected based to a large extent on information from the Anglogold Ashanti geological database. Although Nevada has seen many decades of exploration and mining the use of this extensive database, developed by one of the worlds largest mining companies, is proving to be very useful. The database has enabled Redstar to find high quality, under explored projects in the prolific gold mining regions throughout Nevada and is a significant part of our long term growth plans."
